Hey there, and welcome to New Pathways Counseling! I’m Addison, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), and I’m so glad you’re here. I provide compassionate, client-centered therapy to individuals, families, and children in Western Kentucky.
I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself personally, share why I created New Pathways Counseling, and let you know what you can expect from this practice. So, bear with me—I’m about to channel my inner blogger (which is totally new territory for me).
Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how hard it can be for people to access meaningful, effective mental health care (insurance red tape, long wait list, or the awful thought –is this counselor even listening to me?) Counseling is still so taboo, and too many people walk around believing their struggles aren’t “big enough” or “bad enough” to justify getting help -(which, who, decides what is bad enough- this is a topic for another day.)
There are a lot of great counselors in our community, but I noticed a gap—especially when it came to blending clinical competence with a faith-based approach. I kept hearing the same frustrations from clients and church members alike: they felt unheard, misunderstood, or like they were getting cookie-cutter advice that didn’t truly resonate with their situation.
That’s why I created New Pathways Counseling. I wanted to build a space where people could receive individualized, client-centered care that truly meets them where they are. I actually mean this- it is my goal for every person who steps foot in my office to feel heard, valued, and seen.
Now, I want to be clear—I’m not just some Christian counselor sitting here (drinking an excessive amount of coffee) with a sugarcoated, unrealistic view of life. One of my favorite verses is:
1 Peter 5:6-7
“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
I’ve walked through my own share of struggles—trauma, foster care, adoption, family addiction, and seasons of grief—experiences that shook my faith and forced me to grow. Having a space where I could process those challenges shaped me into the person I am today. I don’t shy away from the hard seasons; I lean into them. And because of that, I’m able to sit across from my clients with true empathy, understanding, and a heart to help—truly, judgment-free.
In my practice, we receive a lot of questions like:
How can I balance my faith with my mental illness?
What healing from trauma will look like for me?
How could therapy benefit my family or my marriage?
Can Christians actually get professional counseling?
What if I’ve already gone to counseling and it didn’t work?
These are legitimate, important questions that deserve honest and compassionate answers. And honestly? I love these questions. I invite them. At New Pathways, I hope to offer a judgment-free space where we can address these concerns and explore the balance between The Gospel and mental health.
